Charlotte Avery

Charlotte Avery is the Program Impact Manager for the Institute of Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence in Law and Society (TRAILS) and the Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland (AIM). In this role, she leads the development, implementation, and management of programs grounded in participatory design, focusing on education and workforce initiatives to broaden participation in AI. These initiatives span multiple university partnerships.
With 17 years of experience in K-12 and higher education, Charlotte has been a highly qualified teacher of mathematics, computing, and educational technology, as well as a program manager overseeing student activities, leadership development, and career readiness programs. Her expertise includes curriculum design, teacher preparation and coaching, event management, and program execution.
Charlotte earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Event Management and a Master of Education in Student Personnel in Higher Education from the University of Florida. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Philosophy in Information Studies at the University of Maryland’s College of Information. Her research focuses on the effects of AI education policy on historically underrepresented populations and the impacts of emerging technologies on education systems.
Outside of work and her studies, Charlotte enjoys building LEGO models, physical activity, self-care activities, and spending quality time with her family and friends.
