Mel Coles is the Program Manager for Engagement, Events & Special Projects for UMIACS and AIM at the University of Maryland. A two-time alumna of the university, she holds a B.A. in Sociology (2016) and an M.A. in American Studies (2021). 

Mel identifies as an interdisciplinary poet-scholar with a strong passion for higher education and student affairs. In her current role, she collaborates with faculty, staff, and students to plan and execute events, managing everything from venue selection and logistics to budget oversight. Mel’s work ensures that each event aligns with strategic goals and runs smoothly, supporting UMIACS and AIM in delivering impactful programming. 

Before joining AIM, Mel held various roles across three divisions at the University of Maryland: Academic Affairs, University Relations and Student Affairs. She resides in College Park, Maryland, where she enjoys traveling abroad, gardening and collecting antiques. She also shares her home with her three feline companions: Emerald, Isis and Galadriel.
